Privacy policy
This English text is a convenience translation. The German version is the legally binding one.
1. Controller
The controller for data processing on this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
OekoFor GmbH
Katharinenstraße 13
79104 Freiburg im Breisgau
Germany
Telephone:
+49 761 88 666 510
Email:
infoecopi.de
We are not required to appoint a data protection officer, as we do not meet the statutory thresholds under § 38 (1) of the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) (as a rule, at least 20 persons continuously engaged in the automated processing of personal data).
2. General principles
As a rule we process personal data only to the extent necessary to provide a functioning website and our content. This website uses no analytics or tracking tools. There is no audience measurement, no profiling and no automated decision-making.
3. Hosting and server log files
This website runs on our own hardware on our premises. No external hosting provider is involved; consequently there is no data processing arrangement under Art. 28 GDPR for operating the website.
When you visit this website, the web server automatically records information transmitted by your browser. This usually covers:
- the IP address of the requesting device (anonymised after 24 hours by zeroing the last octet)
- the date and time of access
- the name and URL of the file retrieved
- the volume of data transferred and confirmation of successful retrieval
- browser type, browser version and operating system used
- where applicable, the previously visited page (referrer)
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in operating the website free of technical faults and keeping it secure. Log files are stored for a maximum of seven days and then deleted.
4. Contacting us
This website does not offer a contact form. If you contact us by email or telephone, we process the data you provide (e.g. name, email address, telephone number, the content of your enquiry) solely in order to deal with your enquiry.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(b) GDPR where the enquiry relates to entering into or performing a contract, and otherwise Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR based on our legitimate interest in answering enquiries. The data is deleted once it is no longer needed for that purpose and no statutory retention periods apply.
5. Cookies and local storage
This website sets no cookies for analytics or advertising purposes.
To remember your language choice (German or English), an entry named ecopi-lang is stored in your browser's local storage (localStorage). It contains only the code for the selected language, does not allow you to be identified, and is not transmitted to us or to any third party. It stays on your device and can be deleted at any time via your browser settings.
Because this storage is technically necessary in order to provide a service you have expressly requested, it does not require consent under § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG.
6. Third-party services
This website loads no content from external servers. All images, fonts, scripts, stylesheets and audio files are delivered from our own server. No IP address is therefore transmitted to any third party when you visit this website.
6.1 Map of project sites
The map on the home page is an image held on our own server and delivered from there. Displaying it involves no transmission to MapTiler, OpenStreetMap or any other map provider. The image was produced in advance from map tiles by MapTiler AG (the "Voyager" style, based on OpenStreetMap data), which is why the attribution they require still appears beneath the map.
The map shows the regions where ecoPi devices are deployed. Exact coordinates are not published: the positions shown are deliberately rounded and exist only as pixels in an image, not as numbers in the page source. Among other things, this protects the breeding sites of threatened species.
6.2 Live bird recordings (our own server)
The home page and the applications page embed an audio player that shows recent bird detections from our ecoPi systems. Unlike the map tiles, this does not involve any connection from your browser to a third party: the data is retrieved exclusively from our own server, which in turn fetches the recordings and statistics from our own recording infrastructure in the background. No personal data of yours is transmitted to third parties in the process; only the server log files described under item 3 are recorded.
7. External links
Our website contains links to external websites (e.g. project partners). We have no influence over how those providers process data. Please consult their own information about how your data is handled.
8. Your rights as a data subject
You have the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- right to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR)
To exercise your rights, a message to infoecopi.de is sufficient.
9. Right to complain to a supervisory authority
You have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority about our processing of your personal data. The competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg, Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, Germany.
10. Data security
This website uses SSL/TLS encryption, which you can recognise from your browser's address bar (https://). This means the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
11. Changes to this privacy policy
We update this privacy policy whenever changes to the website or to the legal situation make it necessary.
